Do you need to apostille your Certified Divorce Decree / Certificate?
Are you divorced in the US and plan to remarry in a foreign country? Have you been told to also obtain a document called a single status apostille? There are many reasons why another country would ask you to apostille your divorce certificate.
In order to apostille your divorce decree / certificate, you will need to contact the Court and request for a certified copy. A certified copy will have the seal of the Court (preferably in color) a raised seal (Embossment), and the signature of the Clerk of the Court who is attesting to the authenticity of your documents.
Some Courts may also be able to email you a certified copy in PDF format. Please contact the Court in the County you were divorced in for instructions on how to obtain a new certified copy. If you are outside of the US, please contact your attorney or the Court directly. There may also be companies who can assist you in obtaining a certified copy for a fee. We can assist you once you obtain the certified copy and mail it to our office with our order forms. For example, if you were divorced in Florida and the Florida Court can issue a certified copy in a PDF format, you can email us the certified copy with our Florida apostille order forms.
Note: Most states DO NOT provide a certified digital copy in PDF format. Please, call the Court in the County you were divorced in for instructions on how to obtain a new certified copy.
Obtaining an apostille can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries.
